WORTH, Joseph B., PhD., aged 46, of St. Louis, MO, died on Saturday, October 10, 2015. “Dr. Joe” as he was affectionately known among the Florissant Valley community, was Vice President of Student Affairs at St. Louis Community College. One of his proudest contributions is having served on the grant writing teams for the Gateway to College and Predominant Black Institutions (African American Male Initiative) grants – both still available today. In addition to being a much-lauded professor, administrator and academic innovator, Worth was recently appointed to the Archdiocese of St. Louis’ Peace and Justice Commission.
Married to his college sweetheart, Joe was a fraternal twin, avid outdoorsman, football fan and traveler. He was also a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity and held an amateur radio license. His contributions to the Garden District Commission responsible for the redevelopment of the McRee town neighborhood earned him an Aldermanic resolution by the City of St. Louis. Worth’s commitment to his community and staunch belief in equitable education will be left in legacy for thousands of students, staff and faculty through the Dr. Joe Memorial Scholarship at St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley.
Worth was the beloved husband of Laura Cross Worth, son of Patricia Staten (Carlton) of Surprise, AZ, and Calvert L. Worth Sr. (Sonja); twin to Jonathan Worth (Tina) of Las Vegas, NV;  brother to Col. Calvert L. Worth Jr. (Lisa) of Camp Lejeune, NC, and Stefanie Worth of Southfield, MI; son-in-law of Jerry Cross (Jane) of Park Hills, MO; brother-in-law to Lana Zerrer (Jason) of Columbia, MO, and Sara Cross (James Jones) of Memphis, TN; dearest uncle, cousin, friend and colleague.
